Fernbrook Analytics, seed deck vs. model

Your deck says

12 people

on payroll from the start of Year 2 (team slide).

Your model says

$900,000

for all Year 2 operating costs.

12 × $90,000 average salary = $1,080,000 in salaries alone. The model is at least $180,000 short, before payroll taxes, rent or tools.

This is the kind of gap the free read catches.

...everything he built is defensible as we begin the pitching process.

Where meetings get hard

Your deck gets skimmed. Your numbers get tested.

Every read checks these six questions.

Runway
How many months does this raise really buy?
Revenue drivers
Is growth built from customers and price, or typed in?
Unit economics
What does a customer cost, and when does it pay back?
Headcount
Do your planned hires appear in your costs?
Use of funds
Does the money reach next-round milestones?
Tie-out
Do your three statements agree?

Asked early, a hard question is a fix. Asked in the meeting, it's a doubt.

Investor Read: Fernbrook Analytics

Seed round, raising $1.8M. 14-slide deck and 3-year model. Read by Amer Habeeb.

Where investors will push hardest

  1. 1. Headcount vs. costs. Your team slide (slide 13) shows 12 people on payroll from the first month of Year 2, and your assumptions tab sets an average salary of $90,000. That's $1,080,000 in salaries alone, before payroll taxes, rent or tools. Your model's Year 2 operating costs are $900,000. Which number is right?

  2. 2. Gross margin. Slide 11 says 85%. The model uses 80%. Expect to be asked which, and what sits in cost of revenue.

  3. 3. Revenue build. Slide 10 takes revenue from $144,000 to $960,000 in two years, but customer counts are typed in. Show the sales plan behind 30, 90 and 200 customers.

Two quick fixes

  1. A. Move the ask (amount, runway, three milestones) from slide 14 to slide 2.

  2. B. Replace the top-down market bubble on slide 5 with a bottom-up count: target restaurant groups × price × 12.

What already holds up

The three statements tie out. At your current price the raise lasts through Year 3 with $248,800 left. Point 1 alone could cut that to $68,800.

If you want a rebuild, I'll quote a fixed price in writing. Amer Habeeb

A consistency check, not an audit.

  • I redo the arithmetic on every slide that has a number.
  • I check the deck against the model, line by line.
  • Every point names the slide, the number and the fix.

If the read finds nothing worth fixing, I'll tell you that too.

"Tie out" means the balance sheet balances because every figure flows from the same assumptions.

Tying out is the floor. Surviving questions is the job.

Working with Amer has been truly amazing... he immediately understood the deck and financial models and offered his recommendations. He understood our tight deadline and had a draft back to us within 24 hrs. His attention to detail is honestly the best I've seen on a platform like this... everything he built is defensible as we begin the pitching process. We've worked with CFO's in the past who couldn't pull off what he did! I highly recommend him!

Who reads your deck

I'm Amer. I check the math behind the story.

I work alone, so the person who reads your deck is the one who builds it.

Investor Read logo

I build investor pitch decks and 3-year financial models for pre-seed and seed founders. I check the numbers before I touch the design, because a good-looking slide that disagrees with the model hurts you more than a plain slide that's right.

I'm based in India, so much of my working day falls while US founders sleep, and everything comes back in writing.

MBA (Finance).

What I don't do

  • Investor introductions.
  • Success fees or equity.
  • Promises that you'll raise.
  • Sales calls.

You'll deal with me from the first read to the final file.

Questions

Straight answers, starting with the awkward one.

Anything else, ask in your request and I'll answer in writing.

Why only one review?

I've completed one paid project so far, and I won't pad the record. The review is public and quoted word for word. The free read lets you judge my work on your own deck first.

Is my deck kept confidential?

The same view-only link you send investors works, and you can revoke it once your read arrives. I use your deck only to write your read and, if you hire me, to do the work. No other person sees it, and I never publish it or use it as a sample without your written permission. The only services that touch it are listed under "How I handle your deck" in my privacy policy.

Is this an audit?

No. I check that your deck and model agree, that the arithmetic works, and where investors will push. I don't audit your data, value your company, or give legal, tax, accounting or investment advice. The figures and assumptions stay yours.

My numbers aren't ready. Should I still send my deck?

Yes. Send the deck and whatever numbers you have. The read tells you what investors will ask for first.

What changes the price?

Slide count, the number of revenue streams, how much of the model already exists, and your deadline. Your quote names each one.

Why no sales call?

So every figure and change is on record. Writing is more precise, and you never squeeze a call between investor meetings.

How fast is it?

Project dates go into your written quote. On my one paid project so far, the first draft arrived in under 24 hours. That's what happened, not a promise.

Will this guarantee I raise?

No. Nobody honest can promise that, and I don't introduce investors or take success fees. You get a deck and model that agree, and the hard questions before the meeting.

Still unsure? The read is free. Judge me on that.
